Keloid Research & Improved Management Funding Request Plastics & Reconstructive NHS Surgery
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are looking for people/institutions that can help us raise some funds for researching victims of keloids and problematic scars. Our team belongs to the Plastic Surgery Unit and Centre for Cutaneous Research [UK] and we are based at Barts & the London NHS Trust & Queen Mary, University of London. We are conductng research on keloid and problematic scars, which are psychologically disabling to which the Asian/ Afro-Caribbean skin types are highly susceptible and to a lesser degree the Caucasian skin type. Keloid scars are not your usually thin lines but are large, raised, itchy, discoloured and disfiguring. Unfortunately victims who receive some form of burn, trauma or surgery have the possibility of getting it. It has been known to occur spontaneously as well.
The Plastics & Reconstructive department at Barts and the London NHS Trust & Queen Mary University of London want to continue the research in keloid disease and problematic scars to know and understand their mechanisms of formation and proliferation. In time to come this will lead to good/better treatment. Present treatment is poor and gives varied results thus we need to understand them better. We need to continue raising funds in order to continue the research and are asking for all types of donations/grants in order to raise this money. All the money will go towards funding researchers, the cell culturing, the molecular reagents used and a special Keloid Clinic. All cheque donations should be made payable to "Special Trustees Fund No 01048”, please make sure you send a covering note/letter to the address below declaring that the cheque is for the KELOID AND PROBLEMATIC SCARS FUND.
